Iraq, Pakistan Strike Separate Deals With Iran for Oil and LNG Through Hormuz

businessenergy-marketsoilnatural-gasworldiran 51 posts · 25 accounts

Iraq and Pakistan have struck separate deals with Iran to move crude oil and liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, expanding what had previously been limited cargo movements. Reuters, citing five people with knowledge of the matter, said Iraq secured safe passage for two very large crude carriers carrying about 2 million barrels each on Sunday and is seeking approval for more transits to protect oil revenues that account for 95% of its budget.

Pakistan’s arrangement has already enabled two Qatari LNG shipments bound for Port Qasim. LSEG shipping data cited by Reuters showed the Mihzem, which had earlier appeared to turn away, crossed the strait on Tuesday after departing Ras Laffan on Monday, following Al Kharaitiyat’s transit on Sunday via an Iranian-approved northern route. Separately, Lloyd’s List reported that QatarEnergy ordered ships entering Ras Laffan, the world’s biggest LNG export hub, to switch off AIS tracking, reducing visible vessel traffic.
