Sutskever Says in Court His OpenAI Stake Is Worth $7 Billion
OpenAI co-founder and former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever said at a court hearing in the Musk-Altman trial that his stake in the ChatGPT maker is worth roughly $7 billion, making him one of the startup's largest individual shareholders. The disclosure offers a rare look at founder holdings that had been unclear and is up from about $5 billion last November.
The testimony comes after OpenAI allowed employees to sell up to $30 million of shares each in a recent financing. More than 600 current and former employees sold about $6.6 billion of stock in October 2025 at an approximately $400 billion valuation after waiting two years for liquidity, with 75 employees reaching the maximum sale amount.
