Pentagon Raises Iran War Cost Estimate to Nearly $29 Billion
The Pentagon's estimate of the cost of U.S. military operations linked to the war with Iran rose to nearly $29 billion from $25 billion late last month, a senior official told lawmakers at a House Armed Services Committee hearing on Tuesday. The official said updated assessments of repair and replacement needs, along with general operational costs, drove the increase.
The Defense Department does not yet have a breakdown for damage to U.S. facilities tied to the conflict, the official said. About $24 billion of the total reflects replacement costs for munitions spent and materiel lost in the war, excluding facilities.
