Microsoft's OpenAI Revenue Hits $30 Billion as Partnership Cost Tops $100 Billion

aiai-sector-impactbusiness 29 posts · 18 accounts

Microsoft has generated about $30 billion in OpenAI-related revenue since 2023, adding a new measure of the alliance's economics after testimony in Elon Musk's case against OpenAI showed the software maker has spent more than $100 billion on the partnership. The spending figure, attributed to Microsoft executive Michael Wetter, includes the company's original investments.

The revenue total is more than double the $13 billion Microsoft invested in OpenAI itself, underscoring how the tie-up has become a significant source of sales even as its overall cost runs far higher. Together, the figures offer one of the clearest public snapshots yet of the scale of Microsoft's financial relationship with the AI startup.
