OpenAI’s $20 Billion Cerebras Commitment Could Yield Up to 11% Stake

OpenAI’s relationship with Cerebras is deepening beyond a supply agreement. A $20 billion commitment could give OpenAI up to an 11% stake in the AI chipmaker through equity tied to future chip orders, while securing more AI inference capacity.

The development builds on OpenAI’s effort to reduce reliance on Nvidia hardware. OpenAI previously hired Gimlet Labs to help optimize its models for Cerebras chips, and a Cerebras-powered product is now live in GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark, a smaller model for real-time coding that runs at more than 1,000 tokens per second on Cerebras hardware. An earlier agreement described in the tweets covered up to 750 megawatts of compute capacity through 2028 and was reportedly worth more than $10 billion.
