Trump and Xi Weigh $30 Billion Tariff Cuts as Beijing Talks Begin
President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping as reports pointed to a more limited trade agenda, including possible tariff cuts on $30 billion of imports. CNBC reported Trump could also unveil an extension of the tariff truce and Boeing orders from China, while Politico said his ambitions had narrowed to smaller trade deals and a request for help reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump was greeted on the tarmac by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and was joined by a business delegation that included Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang, whom he invited at the last minute, Tesla's Elon Musk, Apple's Tim Cook, BlackRock's Larry Fink and Boeing's Kelly Ortberg. The trip is the first state visit to China by a US leader in nine years and comes as Washington and Beijing try to stabilize ties strained by trade, technology, Taiwan and the Iran conflict.
