Accounts published Wednesday described Rep. Pramila Jayapal as contacting foreign countries to help supply oil to Cuba despite U.S. sanctions.
A later report said Mexico was one of the governments she was said to be working with and portrayed the outreach as an effort to work around those restrictions.
