China Orders Firms to Ignore US Sanctions on Iranian Oil
China has ordered companies not to comply with US sanctions on Iranian oil, a move that took immediate effect and applies to five Chinese firms including Hengli Petrochemical that the US Treasury has blacklisted for trading with Iran. The step escalates tensions ahead of President Trump's visit.
China's Commerce Ministry said the order was issued under the country's national security and anti-foreign sanctions laws together with the 2021 Blocking Rules, marking the first time it has invoked its blocking statute. The directive tells Chinese parties not to recognize or comply with the US sanctions on the five firms.
