Iran Boards Chinese Tanker as Missing Crew Reports Add to Hormuz Standoff
Video showed Iran boarding the Chinese tanker Ocean Koi, while the governor of Lengeh Port said six people were injured and another six were missing after a U.S. strike on an Iranian ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The developments followed the Pentagon's release of footage showing U.S. strikes on two Iranian oil tankers, adding to a maritime standoff around the waterway.
The U.S. military said it disabled the Iranian tankers Sea Star III and Sevda after overnight exchanges with Iranian forces to stop them reaching ports in the Gulf of Oman. The Institute for the Study of War said Iran has sought to demonstrate control over the Strait of Hormuz and, citing US Central Command, said U.S. naval forces had redirected 57 vessels since the blockade began on April 13.
