MediaTek Doubles ASIC Revenue View to $2 Billion

MediaTek said its first ASIC artificial-intelligence chip project for a U.S. hyperscale customer is progressing well, and Chief Executive Officer Rick Tsai told the company’s first-quarter earnings call that its custom-ASIC business should generate $2 billion of revenue this year, double a prior $1 billion estimate. Tsai said the project should scale to multiple billions of dollars, while the company raised its estimate for the custom-ASIC market to $70 billion to $80 billion by 2028 from $60 billion to $70 billion and said its goal is to win 10% to 15% market share in 2027.

JPMorgan said the stronger 2026 ASIC outlook, a faster 2027 ramp implying $7 billion to $12 billion of revenue and work on both CoWoS-L and Intel EMIB-T packaging options for a TPU v9 program reduced the binary nature of the data-center ASIC opportunity. The bank upgraded MediaTek to overweight, set a June 2027 price target of NT$3,400 and raised its 2026, 2027 and 2028 earnings-per-share estimates by 9%, 29% and 81%, respectively.
