Oil Market on Edge as Iran Has Yet to Answer US Peace Proposal

businessenergy-marketsoilworldiranpoliticswar 197 posts · 55 accounts

Iran still hadn’t delivered its response to a U.S. proposal to end 10 weeks of war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, extending uncertainty for oil markets. A tanker crossed the waterway on Saturday as Washington awaited Tehran’s answer, while Saudi Aramco Chief Executive Officer Amin Nasser said even an immediate reopening would leave markets taking months to recover and that disruptions lasting weeks could push normalization into 2027.

Trump has warned the U.S. could “go a different route” if Tehran rejects the framework, which would reopen shipping lanes in exchange for easing sanctions. The delay comes after Iran put three red lines in writing, saying its enrichment program is non-negotiable, roughly 400 kilograms of enriched uranium will not be sent abroad and Tehran intends to retain control of the strait, leaving major gaps unresolved.
