Panama Canal Says Iran War Raises Transits 20% and Revenue Up to 15%
The Panama Canal’s manager said the war with Iran has increased the canal’s daily transit operations by 20% since the conflict began and lifted revenue by up to 15%, as disruption to established shipping routes pushed more vessels toward the waterway. He said he expects the canal to retain some of that additional traffic even after the conflict ends.
The figures quantify a broader spillover from fighting that has reshaped trade flows well beyond the Middle East. Earlier ship-tracking data showed three straight days without commercial crossings through the Strait of Hormuz, while US Central Command said 58 commercial vessels had been redirected since April 13.
