Whistleblower Claims Deepen Scrutiny Over Alleged Axios Coordination in Crude Shorts
Claims circulating from purported whistleblowers alleged that Axios coordinated market-sensitive reporting with financial insiders, escalating scrutiny around trading tied to Iran-related headlines. The allegations said CME order information was shared by phone before market open and close prints and that crude oil short positions were placed ahead of Axios reports on a possible U.S.-Iran deal and a “14-point agreement.”
The new accusations build on earlier questions about a roughly $920 million crude short that was said to have been entered about 70 minutes before an Axios report that Washington and Tehran were nearing a memorandum of understanding to end the war. That earlier trade was described as generating about $125 million in gains after oil fell more than 12% on hopes of a deal, prompting allegations of possible market manipulation and insider trading.
