Oil Falls as Trump Pauses Hormuz Operation on Hopes of U.S.-Iran Deal
Oil prices fell in early trading after President Donald Trump paused Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz, as investors interpreted the move as a possible step toward a U.S.-Iran agreement that could reduce supply disruptions. West Texas Intermediate dropped 2.5% after Trump's announcement, while Brent crude fell 2% at the open.
Trump had said Project Freedom would be paused for a short period while the US and Iran see whether an agreement can be finalized. The move marked a shift from Washington's effort to restore shipping through the strait after recent disruptions, with US officials previously saying the operation had already helped two U.S.-flagged merchant vessels complete the passage.
