S&P 500, Nasdaq End at Record Closes as Chip Rally and Jobs Data Lift Stocks
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished at record closes on Friday, extending earlier all-time highs as chipmakers and other AI-related shares advanced and a stronger-than-expected jobs report pointed to labor-market resilience. Intel rose on reports of a deal to make chips for Apple devices, helping drive the technology-led gains.
The move capped the S&P 500's sixth straight weekly gain and extended a rally that earlier pushed the benchmark above 7,400. Sentiment had already been supported this week by a pause in the Iran war, solid U.S. jobs data and another sharp advance in AI-linked chip stocks, leaving the index up 17.2% from its March 30 bottom.
