MercadoLibre Revenue Grows Fastest in Nearly Four Years as Profit Misses
MercadoLibre reported first-quarter revenue of $8.85 billion, topping the $8.37 billion analysts expected. The company posted total payment volume of $87 billion and gross merchandise volume of $19 billion, both above estimates, while net revenue and financial income rose 49% from a year earlier, the fastest pace in almost four years.
Net income was $417 million, below expectations of $426 million, marking the fourth straight quarter in which profit missed estimates. Free shipping and credit expansion squeezed margins, and the shares fell about 5% in after-hours trading.
