NY Fed Survey Shows One-Year Inflation Expectations Rise to 3.6%
US consumers’ one-year inflation expectations rose to 3.6% in April from 3.4% in March, according to a Federal Reserve Bank of New York survey. Three-year expectations held at 3.1% and five-year expectations stayed at 3.0%, suggesting near-term price expectations firmed while the longer-term outlook remained stable.
Households expected home prices to rise 3% over the next year, down from 3.3% in March, and reported a significant drop in one-year gasoline price expectations. At the same time, views on current and future credit access worsened, and expectations for a higher unemployment rate climbed to the highest level since April 2025, while opinions on present and future finances were mixed.
