Strategy CEO Limits Bitcoin Sales to Dividends and Tax Optimization
Strategy Chief Executive Officer Phong Le said any Bitcoin sales would be confined to specific situations, including funding the 11.5% dividend on the company’s STRC preferred stock or for tax optimization. He said the company would weigh selling Bitcoin against issuing stock based on its "Bitcoin per Share" metric, with any sale needing to be accretive to common shareholders.
The clarification follows comments from Executive Chairman Michael Saylor that Strategy could sell Bitcoin to pay dividends, which had fueled speculation about whether the company might reduce holdings more broadly. Saylor later said Strategy would still buy more Bitcoin than it sells, signaling that management is presenting disposals as limited transactions rather than a broader shift in strategy.
