Strategy May Sell Bitcoin to Fund Dividend After $12.54 Billion Q1 Loss
Strategy Inc. may sell some of its Bitcoin to fund a dividend, Michael Saylor said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call, a move that would break from the firm’s “never sell” approach to the cryptocurrency. The comment came after Strategy reported a $12.54 billion net loss for the quarter.
The loss was driven by a $14.46 billion unrealized loss on Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings following a decline in prices. As of May 3, the company held 818,334 Bitcoin, up 22% year to date, with an average purchase price of about $75,537 and a carrying value of about $61.81 billion. Strategy also said it had achieved a 9.4% BTC yield year to date, scaled STRC to $8.5 billion in nine months and raised $11.6 billion so far in 2026.
