DeepSeek Funding Talks Target Up to $4 Billion at $50 Billion Valuation
DeepSeek is in talks to raise $3 billion to $4 billion in its first outside funding round at a valuation of as much as $50 billion, according to Reuters. The fundraising would reverse the Chinese large-language-model developer’s years-long strategy of rejecting outside capital, and the Wall Street Journal said the money would come from government-backed investors, aligning the startup with Beijing’s push for technology self-sufficiency.
Earlier reporting had put the maiden fundraising near a $45 billion valuation and said China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, the state-backed vehicle known as the Big Fund, was discussing a lead role. The latest figures lift the upper end of DeepSeek’s valuation and add a potential deal size to the negotiations.
