Meta Shares Slide as AI Spending Target Climbs to $145 Billion

businesscompany-earningsstocksai 43 posts · 29 accounts

Meta Platforms shares were down nearly 10% in premarket trading after the company raised its 2026 capital-expenditure guidance by $10 billion to $125 billion-$145 billion, even as it beat consensus on first-quarter revenue and second-quarter guidance and reported revenue growth of 33% to $56.3 billion.

JPMorgan downgraded Meta to neutral from overweight and cut its price target to $725 from $825, saying intensifying AI competition leaves the company with a tougher path to returns on heavy spending beyond advertising. Meta's chief financial officer said the company continues to underestimate AI compute demand, and the company moved ahead with an investment-grade bond sale for as much as $25 billion that drew peak demand of about $96 billion. Ad impressions rose 19% in the quarter and average price per ad increased 12%.
