Berkshire Hathaway's cash and cash equivalents rose to a record $397.4 billion at the end of the first quarter, up from $373.3 billion at the end of 2025, in Greg Abel's first quarter as chief executive. Operating earnings increased nearly 18% from a year earlier to $11.35 billion.

The cash build was helped by $8.1 billion in net equity sales. Berkshire ended the quarter with $288 billion of stocks, down from $297.8 billion at the start of the year, and held $339.3 billion of US Treasuries. The results were released ahead of its annual shareholder meeting, where Abel is set to take the stage in Warren Buffett's place.
