Bessent Says US Has $30 Billion to $40 Billion Gain on Intel Stake
Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. government has made $30 billion to $40 billion on an Intel stake that he said was taken several months ago under President Trump’s direction.
Bessent said the administration converted $8.9 billion of CHIPS Act grants into equity last August, receiving 433 million shares at $20.47 each, or roughly a 10% stake. At Intel’s cited trading price of $99.62, the holding would be worth about $43 billion, implying an unrealized gain on paper of about $30 billion to $40 billion.
