Visa Beats Estimates and Authorizes $20 Billion Buyback

Visa reported fiscal second-quarter results that topped estimates, with adjusted earnings per share of $3.31 on net revenue of $11.23 billion, compared with analyst expectations of $3.10 and $10.74 billion. GAAP net income was $6.0 billion, or $3.14 a share, while non-GAAP net income was $6.3 billion, or $3.31 a share. The company also authorized a new $20 billion multi-year share repurchase program.

Payments volume rose 9% from a year earlier, cross-border volume increased 12% and processed transactions climbed 9% to 66.1 billion. Visa said consumer spending remained resilient and forecast fiscal-year adjusted constant-dollar net revenue growth in the low-double-digit to low-teens range, with adjusted EPS growth in the low teens. Shares rose about 5% in after-hours trading.
