Meta Buys Rivos to Cut Nvidia Reliance

businesstechai 1 posts · 1 accounts

Meta Platforms has acquired Rivos, a Silicon Valley startup developing RISC-V artificial intelligence chips, in a move aimed at reducing its dependence on Nvidia hardware. Rivos has raised $250 million at a $2 billion valuation and plans to launch its first AI processor in 2026.

Meta remains heavily reliant on Nvidia GPUs to power AI across Facebook, Instagram and its other platforms. The company plans $66 billion to $72 billion in 2025 capital spending, with most of that still going to Nvidia GPUs for now, and its stock fell nearly 2% after the announcement.
