Trump Administration Allows Firing Squads in Federal Death-Penalty Cases
The Trump administration said Friday it would allow executions by firing squad and restore the use of lethal injections in federal death-penalty cases. It also plans to add electrocution and gas asphyxiation as alternative methods for people convicted of what it called the gravest federal crimes, citing difficulties obtaining drugs for lethal injections.
The plan follows a 52-page report from the Justice Department's Bureau of Prisons ordered by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Pope Leo condemned capital punishment amid the U.S. execution push.
