Hackers Breach Companies Through Microsoft Teams Helpdesk Impersonation

A hacking campaign is targeting companies by flooding employees with thousands of spam emails and then contacting them on Microsoft Teams while posing as IT helpdesk staff. Attackers tell workers they can fix the email problem by installing software called Snow, described as malware that steals passwords and can give intruders full control of a victim’s computer and company network.

The spam barrage is designed to make the Teams outreach appear timely and credible. Employees who see a sudden surge in junk mail and receive a Teams message from someone outside their organization claiming to be IT support should verify the request through official company contacts rather than install software sent in the message.
