TSMC Delays ASML’s Latest Lithography Machines Through 2029

tech 12 posts · 11 accounts

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to hold off on deploying ASML’s most cutting-edge lithography machines for chip production through 2029, saying it can continue to create smaller, faster chips without the expensive new tools. The move is a potential setback for ASML, whose latest equipment TSMC has indicated is too costly to justify for now.

TSMC also outlined the next steps in its process roadmap, saying A13 is a 6% shrink of A14 and that A12 will follow A13. The roadmap update reinforces the company’s view that it can keep advancing chip technology without immediately adopting ASML’s newest machines.
