SOX Sets 17-Day Record as Chip Stocks Beat Software
U.S. semiconductor stocks extended their rally on Thursday, with the Semiconductor Index, or SOX, closing higher for a 17th consecutive trading session, the longest streak on record. Chip shares outperformed software stocks by 8.4 percentage points in the session, the biggest one-day gap on record. Since April 2025, the SOX has rallied 183%, compared with a 5% gain for software stocks.
BTIG said the SOX was 43% above its 200-day moving average, the widest spread since June 2000, and that its 17-day rate of change topped 42%. The firm said that was the biggest move into a new high in the Semiconductor Index's history, exceeded only by the rebound from the October 2002 bottom.
