U.S. Refiners Process 17 Million Barrels a Day as Diesel Crack Spreads Hit $85
U.S. refineries processed 17 million barrels of crude oil a day last week, the highest weekly average since September 2019, according to the Energy Information Administration. Operations reached 97.2% of total capacity, the highest utilization level recorded since 2018.
The increased run rates come amid a severe products shortage, with PADD 2 refineries hitting utilization rates above 100% for five straight weeks, a regional first this year. The Midwest region has processed the most crude on record for a single week as producers attempt to balance supply with persistent fuel demand.
