China Rejects Pentagon Blacklist of 88 Chinese Research Institutions in Funding Ban
China’s commerce ministry condemned the Pentagon’s updated Section 1286 security list, which adds 88 mainland Chinese research institutions to a U.S. funding ban. The designation prohibits Pentagon-funded researchers from conducting fundamental research with the listed bodies or utilizing their equipment.
Beijing accused Washington of politicizing scientific cooperation and creating discriminatory barriers, urging an immediate reversal. The defense department restriction targets 130 institutions across China, Russia and Iran, while the Commerce Ministry pledged unspecified countermeasures to safeguard Chinese research institutions and future scientific exchanges.
