Hormuz Oil Exits Fall Below 3 Million Barrels A Day As Daily Ship Crossings Hit 15
The 10-day average of oil exiting the Strait of Hormuz fell below 3 million barrels a day, down about 80 percent from a late June peak of over 15 million barrels a day. Commercial traffic through the chokepoint remained heavily restricted, with data showing only 15 vessels passed through in the past 24 hours, compared to a prewar average of roughly 120 daily crossings. To keep shipments moving, a tanker shuttling workaround has resumed operations, ferrying oil from the Persian Gulf onto larger vessels in international waters.
QatarEnergy has purchased 33 liquefied natural gas cargoes from the United States to offset supply disruptions, according to sources. While the resumed shuttling and extra LNG purchases have helped cushion commodity markets against severe price spikes, shipping volumes remain well below historical norms as regional hostilities continue. Producers are relying on the bypass method, often navigating with transponders disabled to avoid detection, as energy traders monitor the situation for further flow disruptions.
