UMC Lifts 2026 Capex to $2 Billion for New Tainan Fab and Singapore Expansion

UMC raised its 2026 capital expenditure to $2 billion from $1.5 billion, announcing a new semiconductor fabrication plant in Tainan and a cleanroom expansion at its Singapore facility.

The foundry outlined a three-year spending plan of at least $5 billion, including the $2 billion allocated for this year. Construction of the new Tainan plant will take 20 months, while the Singapore facility will gain additional cleanroom capacity. UMC stated the increases are needed to accommodate accelerating artificial intelligence demand.
