Sen. Rand Paul Bypasses Senate Floor Vote, Sends Anthony Fauci Contempt Referral to Justice Department
Sen. Rand Paul will route a contempt referral for Anthony Fauci directly to the Justice Department, bypassing a scheduled vote on the full Senate floor. The procedural shift follows a hearing in which Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 80 times to decline answering questions from the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
The committee had initially scheduled a contempt vote for next week, but Paul stated he expects the floor route to face greater uncertainty. The committee-approved referral will be accompanied by a legal brief arguing that a blanket pardon granted by President Joe Biden does not shield Fauci from congressional testimony obligations or potential perjury charges.
