Turkey and Iraq Sign Energy and Defense Deals, Target $30 Billion Trade Volume
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi oversaw the signing of multiple bilateral agreements in Ankara, formalizing expanded cooperation in the energy and defense sectors. The deal grants Turkish Petroleum a partnership at the Kirkuk production field operated by BP in Iraq and establishes a framework for Baghdad to supply 1 million barrels of crude oil daily to Ankara.
The agreements aim to expand bilateral trade from $17 billion last year to a medium-term target of $30 billion, according to the Turkish trade minister. The visit also covered regional security, transport infrastructure, and the Development Road Project, with Ankara pledging defense industry products to support Iraqi manufacturing.
