Johnson & Johnson Settles Talc Ovarian Cancer Cases for $5.5 Billion
Johnson & Johnson has agreed to a $5.5 billion settlement to resolve approximately 76,000 lawsuits alleging that its talc products caused ovarian cancer.
The deal is conditional on approval from plaintiff law firms representing at least 95% of pending state and federal claims. J&J plans to pay up to $3 billion in 2027, with the remainder scheduled from 2028 onward. The company, which previously proposed an $8.9 billion deal in 2023, reiterates that its studies find talc safe and unrelated to cancer, calling the arrangement an efficient conclusion to long-running litigation.
