U.S. GDP Growth Slides to 1.5% in Second Quarter as AI Investment Buffers Demand
U.S. economic growth slowed to an annualized rate of 1.5% in the second quarter, missing economists' forecasts and decelerating from the 2.1% expansion recorded in the prior period.
Underlying domestic demand remained firm, with consumer spending rising 3.2% and business investment surging 8.4%. Nonresidential investment, heavily weighted toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, contributed 1.15 percentage points to the gross domestic product figure, offsetting a drop in government spending and a wider trade deficit from increased imports.
