Meta Launches Open-Source AI Agent Harness and New Models
Meta is releasing a new open-source AI agent harness alongside foundation models, shifting its strategy from shipping base model weights to providing the complete infrastructure needed to build and run autonomous agents.
Perplexity CEO Alexandr Wang confirmed the plans on stage, noting that the accompanying next-generation models will follow a hybrid release strategy with the most advanced versions remaining closed source. The harness manages external agent functions, including task decomposition, tool calling, memory, permissions and error recovery.
