Saudi Arabia Shoots Down Drones Targeting Eastern Province Oil Facilities, Blames Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq
Saudi Arabia's defense ministry intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that attempted to strike oil facilities in the kingdom's Eastern Province, according to the official spokesperson. The military blamed Iranian-backed militias for the attack and reaffirmed Riyadh's right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.
The kingdom's foreign ministry formally condemned the strikes on its energy infrastructure, drawing similar denunciations from regional allies including Jordan and Qatar. Damage from the intercepted drones was not immediately reported, though the country's key Abqaiq processing plant suffered visible fire and smoke from separate Houthi claims earlier Monday.
