Hormuz Tanker Crossings Drop to Zero; Bab el-Mandeb Handles One Crude Tanker in Four Days
Public ship-tracking data indicated energy shipping through the region’s main chokepoints remained severely disrupted, with zero tankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz on July 26 versus 57 on the same day last year. In the Bab el-Mandeb, tanker trackers showed one crude tanker crossing in the past four days, down from more than four a day earlier this month, while LNG traffic through Hormuz was described as being at a standstill for nearly three weeks.
Separate monitoring showed Saudi Red Sea crude tanker traffic had no traceable calls since July 23, and an alternative lane off Oman that handled 167 ships in its first 19 days carried just four since July 9. Some of the counts refer only to visible or traceable traffic, pointing to continued disruption even where total ship movements may be harder to verify.
