China Warns of Retaliation as U.S. Probe Targets Chinese AI Firms Over Distillation
Beijing warned it will take all necessary countermeasures if the United States sanctions artificial intelligence companies over claims of model distillation.
The warning followed a report that the White House had advanced its criticism of Chinese AI firms into a formal federal investigation. Beijing dismissed the allegations as baseless, labeled the proposed restrictions an attempt at "AI hegemony," and called for Washington to implement bilateral dialogue on AI governance instead.

@oneill_cDoesn’t this fire you up? We’re gonna do it. We’re actually gonna do it; open source is going to diffuse this intelligence to everyone. Frontier closed labs will still make money but they won’t control the light cone. The recipe is commodit

@skypilot_orgFrontier open models have arrived. Building custom intelligence is now within reach. Data’s there, frontier open models are available, and (fragmented) AI compute is what we unify — so frontier teams build intelligence, faster.
