Nvidia is discussing a guarantee of roughly $250 billion to help OpenAI lease a 10-gigawatt data center developed by SoftBank in Ohio, the Wall Street Journal reported. The backstop covers financing for a project with a total cost exceeding $500 billion, which would be the largest AI data center announced to date.

The proposed guarantee triggered the largest single-session spike on record for the cost of protecting Nvidia’s five-year debt, which climbed to 0.82% from 0.40% last month. The financing talks also include underwriting $350 billion in chip purchases, while separately Nvidia has signed leases worth up to $50 billion for a Texas data center developed by Hut 8.
