Philippines Accuses China Coast Guard Member of Striking Sailor in South China Sea Clash
The Philippine military accused a Chinese coast guard member of injuring a sailor with a wooden baton during a maritime clash between naval and coast guard personnel at the disputed Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea on July 20.
Footage from the area showed crews trading blows with paddles and sticks near the grounded BRP Sierra Madre tank landing ship. Both sides have disputed the incident, which is set to feature in top-level talks in Manila this week.
