Iran Missile Hits Troop Housing at Jordan Base, Killing 2 U.S. Service Members
The Iranian ballistic missile attack that killed two U.S. service members at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan hit housing units where troops lived and slept, U.S. officials told the Wall Street Journal. The fatal strike was one of three missile attacks on the base within 24 hours, with personnel scrambling to get to hardened shelters each time and not always reaching them in time.
U.S. officials said the first missile hit the base's gym, wounding some troops en route to bunkers, and a second struck an empty aircraft hangar before a third hit containerized housing where soldiers were sleeping. The report said three missiles got through air defenses, underscoring the challenge of protecting an estimated 50,000 U.S. troops in the region.
