An oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after striking a naval mine, Iranian state media and defense-linked agencies reported Sunday. The reports, citing an informed source, described the vessel as a violator that strayed from a shipping lane approved by Tehran.
U.S. Central Command and UKMTO said they had not independently confirmed the incident, and Iranian officials have not issued an official statement. The strike follows a multi-day disruption at the chokepoint, during which the Revolutionary Guard warned that departing designated routes carries full risk and previously fired warning shots to halt four vessels.
