Zelensky Appoints Khmara as Acting Defense Minister as Fedorov Protests Enter Fifth Day
Zelensky has appointed former SBU Special Forces chief Yevhen Khmara as acting defense minister, reshuffling the government following the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov.
The cabinet change arrives as protests in Kyiv mark their fifth consecutive day, a rare show of public dissent during more than four years of war. Demonstrators are calling for broader military reforms and the removal of Commander-in-Chief Syrsky, who issued a statement apologizing for his dispute with Fedorov and noting he was unaware of the conflict until it went public. The administration continues to consider additional adjustments to prevent deepening domestic divisions while the war continues.
