TSMC Secures Order to Manufacture Tesla’s First 2nm AI6.5 Chip at Arizona Plant, Extending 3nm Visibility to 2027
Tesla has secured an order for TSMC to manufacture its first 2nm artificial intelligence chip, designated AI6.5, at a new Arizona facility, according to a media report. Global Unichip will serve as the design partner for the process.
The agreement adds volume to TSMC’s 3nm process, which remains fully booked through mid-2027. The foundry will also mass-produce Tesla’s AI5 chip for Optimus robots and vehicles, alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for Samsung foldable phones. Sustained commercial success from the Optimus platform is expected to drive further volume ramping at the plant.
