Azerbaijan Presses European Banks for Oil and Gas Financing to Boost Exports to Germany and 10 EU States
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev is urging European banks to resume financing oil and gas infrastructure projects, stating that renewed investment will allow the country to significantly increase energy exports to Europe, including Germany.
The call follows damage to Russian energy infrastructure that Moscow says is limiting its ability to supply traditional buyers. German Chancellor Merz called cooperation on the Southern Gas Corridor vital for diversifying fuel supplies. Azerbaijani gas already entered the German market this year and supplies 10 European Union member states.
