EU, France and Qatar Condemn Houthi Attacks on Saudi Shipping
The EU, France and Qatar on Thursday condemned Yemen's Houthis over attacks on Saudi tankers and threats to impose a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, warning that the moves endangered international shipping in the Red Sea.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said freedom of navigation must be preserved in both the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. France called the strikes irresponsible, while Qatar said an attack on a Saudi vessel violated maritime safety and international law and threatened energy security, and urged enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions on Yemen and freedom of navigation.
