EU Approves 21st Russia Sanctions Package, Bans 94 Banks After Greece Secures LNG Shipping Exemption
EU ambassadors have agreed on the bloc’s 21st sanctions package against Russia, imposing full financial transaction bans on 94 Russian banks and the Moscow Exchange. The measures also expand restrictions to cryptocurrency trading platforms and target vessels linked to Moscow’s shadow oil fleet.
The agreement came after Greece lifted its veto following an exemption that permits Greek firms to continue shipping Russian liquefied natural gas to non-European clients. The package freezes the Russian oil price cap at $44 per barrel for 12 months and adds more than 250 individuals and companies to restrictions, while scaling back earlier proposals on Russian fish imports and a Schengen entry ban for military personnel.
